A man is in life-threatening condition and a woman was injured but is now stable after a shooting and a collision in Toronto on Tuesday night.

Police say they were called to the scene of a crash, in which one vehicle had collided with another that was parked on Hymus Road, at about 7:30 p.m. The collision happened near Warden Avenue south of Eglinton Avenue East

Officers found a woman "suffering from obvious injuries" beside one of the vehicles, according to Insp. Craig Young, spokesperson for Toronto Police Service. Police believe the woman had been inside the vehicle.

Officers began life-saving measures and the woman, suffering from several gunshot wounds, was rushed to a local trauma centre. Police said Wednesday she is now in stable condition.

"We don't know the sequence of events," Young said. "Local bystanders were drawn to the sound of a collision and responded and observed the female outside of the vehicle suffering from obvious injuries."

Police conducted an "exhaustive investigation" and found out that two occupants of the vehicle that crashed into the one that was parked had fled the scene.

One of the occupants is still outstanding. The second occupant, a man suffering from gunshot wounds, showed up at a local hospital in life-threatening condition. He was transported to a trauma centre as well.

"We believe that male is associated to this event," Young said.

Young said police are canvassing the area for surveillance camera footage. He said the canine unit, emergency response task force, drone unit and public safety response team are searching the area.

The victims' ages were not released.

The suspect is described an adult male, wearing a black top, blue jeans, black shoes and a long t-shirt hanging out from the black top. He was seen fleeing eastbound on Hymus Road.

Police are asking anyone with any information or cell or dashboard camera video to call them.
