Man arrested after woman, 83, dies in Oshawa apartment fire
Emergency crews called to Nonquon Rd. on Sunday evening
A man has been arrested after an Oshawa apartment went up in flames killing an 83-year-old woman.
Durham Regional Police say they were called to the building on Sunday around 7:10 p.m. on Nonquon Road near Taunton Road East and Ritson Road North for reports of a fire.
The victim was found inside the apartment where she lived, said Const.George Tudos. She was taken to hospital where she later died.
The cause of the blaze, which was contained to the unit, is not yet known, but Tudos said there was evidence at the scene that it was "suspicious in nature."
The homicide team has taken over the investigation.
This is the fifth homicide for Durham Region this year.
