A 55-year-old man is dead after a stabbing at a Wellesley Street apartment building early this morning.

Emergency crews were called to the building at 200 Wellesley St. E. near Sherbourne Street just before 4 a.m.

Paramedics rushed the man to a trauma centre with life-threatening injuries, but he was pronounced dead in hospital.

Police have taken one suspect into custody and say there are no outstanding suspects.

In a statement, Toronto Community Housing said it is assisting residents who may require support and has provided security camera footage to police.

"Recognizing that this building has particular challenges, we provide access control from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. through security in the lobby," TCH spokesperson Craig Ashbourne said.

Ashbourne said anyone with information is urged to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
