Toronto officers charged with assault

Toronto police have charged two officers with assault after a suspect was allegedly injured while in custody.

Toronto police have charged two officers with assault after a suspect was allegedly injured while in custody.

Manpreet Kharbar and Paul Ramos, both police constables, were charged Thursday with assault causing bodily harm.

The incident that led to the charges happened on April 24.

Keith Ryan became involved in an altercation with a parking enforcement officer, Devon Henry, near Queen Street West and Ossington Avenue.

Ryan was taken into custody.

The province's Special Investigations Unit says the parking enforcement officer then went to the police station and allegedly assaulted Ryan.

Ryan was later taken to hospital with facial injuries.

Since the parking enforcement officer is a civilian member of the force he is not the subject of the SIU investigation. But Henry has been charged with assault causing bodily harm.

The two officers charged were the only two subject officers in the investigation.
