Five men face kidnapping and extortion charges after police rescued a teen from the trunk of a car in Brampton, Ont., on Monday.
Peel Regional Police said they were investigating a reported kidnapping when they stopped a car early Monday morning in the area of Sandalwood Parkway and Bramalea Road in Brampton, northwest of Toronto.
Police searched the vehicle, discovering the victim in the trunk.
It is alleged the incident was the result of an unpaid drug debt.
The victim, a 17-year-old male from Brampton, suffered minor injuries.
Peter Connolly, 26, Neshaul Latchman, 28, David Connolly, 19, and Theodore Van Boort, 19 — all from Brampton — face charges of kidnapping, extortion, assault with a weapon and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.
Phabian Campbell, 19, from Toronto has been charged with kidnapping, extortion, assault with a weapon, possession for the purpose of trafficking and two counts of assault with intent to resist arrest.
