A 17-year-old is facing charges after a gun was fired at police officers Thursday night.

Toronto Police Const. Wendy Drummond said the officers were on patrol in the Dundas Street and Bloor Street West area at around 11 p.m. Thursday when they stopped a vehicle for failing to stop a red light.

"Before the officers could actually get out of the car, the passenger fled from the vehicle, ran across Dundas through traffic and into a laneway," Drummond said.

"The officers pursued the passenger and as they were running through the laneway they heard what they believe to be a gunshot so they disengaged their pursuit and called in police dogs services."

The police dog search led police to the accused who was hiding under a porch.

Police say they also found a nine-millimetre handgun.
