SIU investigating woman's death from balcony fall

Ontario's Special Investigations United has assigned four investigators to look into the circumstances surrounding the Wednesday night death of a woman who fell from an apartment balcony in Scarborough.

The circumstances surrounding the death of a woman in Scarborough on Wednesday night are being investigated by Ontario's Special Investigations Unit.

The 30-year-old woman fell from a balcony of a seventh-floor apartment on Gordonridge Place.

Police had been called to the apartment building by tenants. 

According to a statement from the SIU when officers knocked at the apartment door the woman answered but refused to allow them to enter.

"Shortly thereafter, she fell from the balcony to the ground," the statement said.

The unidentified woman was taken to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre but died from her injuries.

The SIU investigates all incidents involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
