A late night water main break on Sheppard Avenue West caused a sinkhole to open up the roadway Friday morning.

This incident is in addition to another break on Bloor Street West early Friday morning.

Sheppard was flooded with water around midnight after a break in the westbound lane approaching Weston.

By early Friday morning, a sinkhole had spread to cover most of the westbound side of the road. A few businesses and some upstairs apartments are currently without water.

Closures are in effect on Sheppard in both directions from Weston Road to Rivalda Road.

Police and firefighters responded to the break last night, closing off the area. (Tony Smyth/CBC)

The 84 Sheppard West bus is turning back at Sheppard Avenue and Rivalda Road because of the break.
