Ontario snow causes multiple highway collisions around Toronto

Police are reporting a slew of highway collisions in areas around Toronto after a dusting of snow left roads wet and slippery for the morning commute.

Highway 401 westbound was closed just before 4 a.m. Monday from Guelph Line to Highway 6 after a multi-vehicle collision that included a jackknifed tractor trailer and a diesel spill.

All the westbound lanes were reopened by 8:45 a.m.

At around 5:30 a.m., provincial police alerted drivers to a two-vehicle crash on the Toronto-bound QEW just before Erin Mills Parkway.

And a vehicle veered out of control and ended up in a ditch on Highway 427 southbound, just south of Derry Road in Mississauga.

A portion of the Don Valley Parkway was closed by Toronto police for about an hour at 12:15 a.m. because of icy conditions but salt trucks were brought in and all lanes were reopened.
