Off-duty officers charged with assault, forcible confinement
Peel police say charges stem from altercation with a man at a Brampton banquet hall
Peel police say four off-duty police officers are facing charges including assault and forcible confinement after an altercation with a man at a Brampton banquet hall.
The 62-year-old male suffered a fractured nose, minor scrapes and bruises as a result of the incident on Nov. 30, 2012.
Police said Thursday that after an investigation into the altercation, three officers — Sgt. Bernard Webber, Const. Darren Barden, Const. Lance Kerec — have been charged with assault causing bodily harm and forcible confinement.
Another officer, Staff Sgt. Doug Schulz, has been charged with being a party to the offence of assault causing bodily harm and forcible confinement.
"I immediately launched an investigation into this serious allegation which has resulted in these charges being laid," said Chief Jennifer Evans in a statement Thursday.
The officers have been suspended since the investigation began, and are expected to appear in court in Brampton next month.
