SIU says motorcyclist involved in crash with Toronto police car has died
'The man was taken to hospital in serious condition and later died,' SIU says
Ontario's police watchdog says the driver of a motorcycle involved in a crash with a Toronto police car has died.
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said the crash happened in the intersection of College Street and University Avenue on Friday at about 5:35 p.m.
"The man was taken to hospital in serious condition and later died," the SIU said in a news release on Saturday.
According to the SIU, the police car was marked. The officer was not injured in the collision.
The post-mortem examination is scheduled for Sunday. The SIU is continuing to investigate the crash.
Paramedics said the man was in his 20s. Neither the SIU nor the police have confirmed the man's age.
The SIU is a civilian agency that investigates incidents involving the police that lead to deaths, serious injuries, allegations of sexual assault or the discharge of a firearm.
