Fire rips through empty house in midtown Toronto
No injuries reported after 2-alarm blaze
Toronto firefighters have responded to a two-alarm fire at an empty house near Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue.
The blaze broke out Thursday morning on Stibbard Avenue, a residential street that intersects with Mount Pleasant Road. It has since been extinguished and no injuries were reported, a fire official confirmed.
Firefighters said the residence was under renovation and no one was there when the fire began.
The blaze has been contained to a single property, according to fire officials. Residents of a house just west of the engulfed property evacuated on their own, a firefighter told CBC News.
Mount Pleasant Road was closed for several hours between Blythwood Road and Sheldrake Boulevard Thursday morning but has since reopened.
Fire officials said the cause of the blaze is not yet known but an investigation is ongoing.
Update: Mount Pleasant Rd has been re-opened.^adc
