Man, 27, in life-threatening condition after shooting outside Richmond Hill restaurant
Shooting occurred outside The One Fusion Cuisine on Bayview Ave. north of Hwy. 7
A man, 27, was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition after a shooting outside a Richmond Hill restaurant on Friday night.
The shooting occurred in the parking lot of 9019 Bayview Ave., north of Highway 7. Officers were called to The One Fusion Cuisine restaurant for a weapons call shortly after 10:30 p.m.
When police arrived, they found the victim outside the restaurant. He was suffering from at least one gunshot wound, according to Insp. Ian Hill, spokesperson for York Regional Police.
Investigators believe it was a targeted shooting.
Paramedics rushed the man to Toronto's Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre for treatment. He was still listed in life-threatening condition as of Saturday morning.
No one else was injured.
Police taped off the plaza to secure the crime scene and have been canvassing the area for witnesses and surveillance camera video.
Hill said police have "no idea" what may have led to the shooting and said it's too early to say if it was targeted or not.
"It's still early in the investigation right now," Hill said on Saturday.
"I can't comment and nor do I have knowledge as to what sort of transpired, or what sort of started this whole incident."
Hill could not say if the restaurant was busy at the time of the shooting but said there were people inside at the time.
Police are searching for a suspect who was dressed in all black and wearing a hoodie over his face during the shooting. The suspect fled the scene before police arrived early Saturday morning.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call York police or Crime Stoppers.
