Man in his 60s dies following industrial accident at York University
Police received reports that a window being lifted by a crane struck the worker
A worker in his 60s has died following an industrial accident at a construction site at York University on Monday, Toronto police say.
Emergency crews were called to the area of Pond Road and James Gillies Street, in North York, around 11 a.m.
When officers arrived, they found a man with critical injuries, Insp. Ishmail Musah told reporters at the scene.
Musah says it appears that a window being lifted by a crane fell on the worker, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Ministry of Labour in investigating, police say.
"Right now we believe it to be an accident, and we are going to let the Ministry of Labour take the lead," Musah said.
"They'll advise us if there's some sort of criminality we should be looking at."
