Toronto police have identified a man killed in a shooting outside a North York community centre Monday evening as 27-year-old Paul (Boulos) Rizk.

Emergency responders were called around 8 p.m. to Forest Manor Road, near the Don Mills Road and Sheppard Avenue East area, for the sound of multiple gunshots.

The victim was found outside Parkway Forest Community Centre with what appeared to be gunshot wounds, said Toronto police spokesperson Gary Long.

He was without vital signs and died at the scene, according to paramedics. The building was locked down for more than an hour after witnesses said they heard 10 shots fired.

Homicide detectives learned in their investigation that a small group of people were outside the community centre when a car drove up and fired off several shots in their direction.

Investigators are looking for a dark-coloured, four-door sedan that fled the area at a "high rate of speed." It wasn't immediately clear if the shooting was targeted or why the group of people were at the building.

Toronto police's forensic identification unit were still at the scene this morning. A post-mortem examination will be conducted later Tuesday.

Officers are canvassing the area for any security cameras that may have captured the incident and anyone with potentially useful information is asked to contact police.

Rizk's death is the city's 80th homicide this year.
