Former elementary teacher charged with sexual assault of student

Police say a former elementary school teacher has been charged in the alleged sexual assault of a student in Oshawa, Ont., more than two decades ago.

Police say a former elementary school teacher has been charged in the alleged sexual assault of a student in Oshawa, Ont., more than two decades ago.

Durham Regional Police say the alleged assault took place between 1996 and 1997 at Dr. C.F. Cannon Public School.

They say the complainant who came forward to police was a Grade 5 student at the time.

Police say they arrested a 74-year-old Bowmanville, Ont., man on Friday.

He has been charged with sexual assault, sexual interference and invitation to sexual touching.

Police say there may be other alleged victims and investigators are asking them to come forward.
