A female cyclist involved in a hit-and-run downtown early Saturday morning was also the victim of an attempted robbery, police say.

The woman was struck near Spadina Avenue and College Street by a silver Pontiac car that fled the scene.

She was transported to St. Michael's hospital as a precaution.

Police said that while people were trying to help the woman another man allegedly tried to steal the belongings from her purse.

Police arrested the man, who was wearing a Superman hat, after witnesses identified him.

Police are continuing to search for the driver of the vehicle.

Fred Munroe, 36, has been charged with theft and failure to comply with probation.
