Body pulled from Lake Ontario after car plunges into water near Billy Bishop Airport

A body was recovered from Lake Ontario on Sunday afternoon, hours after a car plunged into the icy waters from the island side of Billy Bishop Airport in downtown Toronto.

A man's body was recovered from Lake Ontario on Sunday afternoon, hours after a car plunged into the icy waters near Billy Bishop Airport in downtown Toronto.

Emergency crews were called to the scene on Hanlan's Island around 7 a.m. for reports that a vehicle with a person inside had rolled into the lake about eight metres from the ferry dock at the airport. 

Toronto police's marine unit divers searched the area throughout the morning and pulled the body from the lake shortly after noon. Paramedics said the man was recovered from inside the vehicle. 

A spokesperson for Toronto police said the force will provide an update on the situation later today.
