Brothers charged with aggravated assault after suspected robber beaten
Two brothers from Thornhill have been charged after a suspected robber was badly beaten.
Alexandru Truta, 46, and Marius Truta, 44, were arrested at the scene and each charged with one count of aggravated assault.
The pair appeared in court in Newmarket for a bail hearing on Saturday. They were both released.
York Regional police say the Trutas surprised three would-be robbers trying to break into the garage of their home on German Mills Road, early Friday morning.
The brothers, police say, approached the suspects and an altercation ensued.
When police arrived one man was on the ground.
The suspected thief was beaten so severely that he is in hospital in critical condition.
If he recovers he will face a charge of breaking and entering.
The Truta brothers will make their next court appearance on May 22.
