2 wounded in leg, 1 shot in back in Sunday night incident

A triple shooting at a Scarborough pizza store still serving customers at the time marred the last long weekend of the summer.

Two men suffered bullet wounds in their legs, while the third victim, also a man, was shot in the back around 9:30 p.m. Sunday on Lawrence Avenue East, near Markham Road.

"Like gunshots — boom, boom, boom," recalled Beatrice Simba, who said she scrambled for safety during the incident. Other innocent bystanders had been waiting in line for a slice of pizza just steps away, police said.

"It's very troubling. It's about 9 p.m. and the pizza store had about a half dozen people in the store, including a young kid," police said. "All went scrambling for cover when the shots were fired. Probably about six shots were fired."

All the victims survived the shooting and it's believed two of them lived in the highrise next door.

Prem Shanmuarahajah, who works next to the pizza shop, was angry his wife, son and all the customers were put in danger.

"I am inside. My family here running the business," he said.

Police say they have images of the suspects and hope to be able to identify them after reviewing surveillance camera footage.
