Police in Toronto's 51 Division are investigating a pair of early morning stabbings in the downtown core.

The first stabbing occurred around 4 a.m. Wednesday near Queen Street East and Sherbourne Street.

One man in his 20s was stabbed in the back and rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

A man in his 30s was arrested in connection to the stabbing.

The second incident happened a few blocks away in an apparent robbery on Queen at Church Street around 5:30 a.m.

A man in his 50s was stabbed in the neck, police said. The suspect fled the scene and is still at large.

Queen Street was closed until about 8 a.m. between Church and Parliament streets as police investigated. The TTC's 501streetcar had to divert south to King during the closure.
