Two men allegedly stole a party bus in Barrie, Ont., and drove it down a stretch of Highway 400, before police brought the vehicle to a stop earlier today.

In a news release issued Sunday, Barrie police say that the party bus owned by "Redneck Limo" had been left unoccupied in the Dunlop Street and Hart Drive area in the city.

Police say that's when "two intoxicated males" then stole the bus in an alleged bid to drive themselves home to Alliston, Ont., which is located about 40 kilometres south of Barrie.

Police say that bystanders watched the alleged theft and helped officers locate the party bus.

The vehicle was stopped on the southbound side Highway 400, at 12:22 a.m.

Police say officers investigated and found both men "to be intoxicated."

A breath test found the driver to have a blood-alcohol level that was nearly three times the legal limit, police say.

The men, both of whom are 28 years old, were held in custody. Charges are being laid that relate to the alleged theft and impaired operation of the vehicle.

The charges have not been proven in court.
