Tornado warnings lifted in northwestern Ontario
Funnel clouds reported in several centres
Funnel clouds were reported in several northwestern Ontario communities on Tuesday afternoon as severe weather swept through the region.
Tornado warnings issued by Environment Canada for centres such as Kenora, Dryden, Vermilion Bay, Sioux Lookout and Fort Frances were ended just before 7 p.m.
Emergency Management Ontario had issued warnings advising residents to stay indoors, away from doors and windows, preferably in a basement area.
Severe thunderstorm watches remain in effect over much of the northwest for the evening hours.
Funnel clouds were reported near Dryden airport at 4:30 p.m. and near the Sioux Lookout airport at 5:40 p.m.
Environment Canada said weather radar showed thunderstorms in the Kenora and Grassy Narrows areas were exhibiting rotation.
