Ontario Provincial Police say a truck driver and a passenger suffered non-life-threatening injuries Tuesday morning when a tractor-trailer overturned on Highway 11-17, east of Thunder Bay.

The accident happened in the Municipality of Shuniah.

Police said the driver of a rig that was pulling a double-trailer was eastbound on the Trans-Canada Highway when he lost control, causing the tractor to roll onto its side. The front trailer rolled over onto the gravel portion of the highway, while the rear trailer overturned and ended up in the ditch.

The OPP, the Shuniah volunteer fire department, and Superior North Emergency Medical Services all responded to the accident.

Highway 11-17 was open to one lane of eastbound traffic as the investigation and cleanup continued.
