Thunder Bay group home staff praised for actions during fire
No injuries reported from Saturday morning blaze
Fire department officials in Thunder Bay are lauding the efforts of staff at a group home in the city after a fire broke out over the weekend.
Firefighters responded to a structural fire call at the Copenhagen Road building just before 9 a.m. on Saturday, according to Thunder Bay Fire Rescue.
When they arrived, they found a fire burning in the basement. Crews quickly put out the blaze, but not before "extensive" damage was done to the building by fire and smoke, said the fire department in a news release.
The residence is a group home for people with special needs. The fire service said staff quickly evacuated all residents safely before firefighters arrived.
No injuries were reported.
