Star Wars, Dr. Who themed merchandise lands Thunder Bay woman spot at Fan Expo Canada
Over 100,000 people expected to attend sci-fi event over the Labour Day weekend in Toronto
A Thunder Bay entrepreneur is boldly going, where few small business people from northwestern Ontario have gone before.
"This is huge," said Botterill of the chance to show off her products at the Labour Day weekend event, which is expected to draw more than 100,000 people.
"The amount of people that are going to come by, that are going to take my business card, that are going to see my stuff, that are going to buy my stuff and then like my Facebook page and start following me on Instagram, like just being able to see everything that I do, this is just massive."
FanExpo is geared towards science fiction, and will feature the writers, and stars of everything from Star Trek to the Walking Dead to the Marvel comic book universe.
"I tend to do things that I love, because if I'm going to be spending all this time looking at the fabric and sewing it, it has to be the ones that I love," Botterill said.
To that end, she's taking merchandise highlighting Dr. Who, Star Wars, and Harry Potter, because "with the new Cursed Child that just came out, that's been getting a resurgence of fandom."
Botterill's booth will be set up only two tables away from where stars like Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) of Star Wars and Gillian Anderson (Dana Scully) of the X-Files will be signing autographs.
"I'm just going to be waving at all the actors and celebrities that are there and just hoping they come to see me."
