Man identified in Kakabeka Falls death

The identity of the man who plunged to his death in the Kakabeka Falls gorge has been confirmed. Kurtis McVittie, 22, hailed from Huntsville, Ont. He died Oct. 12 during an interaction with an OPP officer who was called to the park, after McVittie reportedly refused to leave the area at closing time.
The province's Special Investigation's Unit was called in to investigate the case. The unit has contacted a number of civilian witnesses, said Frank Phillips, Communications Co-ordinator with the SIU, and is now trying to locate any video or audio recording of the incident.
"We've been finding ... with the advent of technology, a lot of times people will have cell phones with cameras in them," he said.
"We have found in investigations ... we are able to glean a lot of information from individuals taking pictures ... so we ask for that now as a standard course in an investigation."
