Kenora Forest Products hiring for June start
Expansion at Kenora forest products mill means company will likely hire additional workers
A rebound in parts of the forest industry means work for more than 100 people as Kenora Forest Products will re-open its sawmill in June.
The mill will start up with a reduced workforce of about 50 people, before ramping up its production.
Kenora's economic development officer said a stronger lumber market allowed the mill to re-open.
"The price of lumber has increased, the housing market is improving," Jennifer Findlay said.
"Basically what's kept them closed is market conditions and (they're) confident the market is turning around."
Findlay noted the owners also plan to expand the mill, and that will include supplying biomass to other companies.
"Their long term plans are still to do a major expansion, which likely will result in a re-location," she said.
"But, they're looking to open in June of 2013 starting with about 50 people and then fairly quickly ramping up to their original number from 2008 which is about 115 employees."
