New allegations come forward against Eli Mandamin, former OPP officer
A Kenora area man is facing more historical sexual assault charges.
OPP charged 56-year-old Eli Mandamin on Thursday, following an investigation into an incident from the 1970s. The charges stem from an incident between 1975 and 1977 which occurred when Mandamin was a First Nation Constable with the OPP in the community of Iskatewizaagegan, also known as Shoal Lake 39.
Based on the Criminal Code at the time, Mandamin has been charged with Rape and Sexual Intercourse with a Female between 14 and 16 years old.
He is to appear in court on Dec. 17.
Yesterday's charges follow two similar ones laid against Eli Mandamin in May. Those charges stem from an incident in 1981, also while he was working with the OPP in the community.
Mandamin is also a former chief of Iskatewizaagegan First Nation.
