Fort Frances OPP report they were called by a Minnesota outfitter who received a SPOT locater message from a man on a canoe trip who needed help. A SPOT locator is a device that sends a call for help to emergency services via satellite
Police were given the GPS co-ordinates for the man's location on Kawnipi Lake on Monday, but rescue efforts were delayed because of poor weather.
However officers and a paramedic got to the man Tuesday morning.
The man's canoe had drifted away from shore, leaving him stranded, police said.
