Federal government gets final say

A vote by Sudbury's city councillors regarding three proposed cell phone towers ended in a tie Monday night.

Rogers is hoping to put the towers up in Hamner, Val Therese and Capreol.

Although the city is asked for its opinion, the final decision for these matters rests with the federal government.

“It may not be fair, but it's a fact of life,” Coun. David Kilgour said. “And we're moving forward. And we don't have a choice as to yes or no, it's a choice as to whether we concur or not."

Monday’s vote resulted in a two-two tie but will be voted on again at the upcoming council meeting.

Last year, city council advised against a cellphone tower planned for the Minnow Lake area and in that case Bell Mobility decided to put the tower elsewhere.
