English public elementary schools closed in North Bay school district
Near North schools will be closed to elementary students, but will remain open to high school students
Class will not be in session today for elementary students in the Near North District School Board.
The union representing the province's English public elementary teachers is also holding one-day strikes at two other boards as part of its ongoing labour dispute with the provincial government.
All four of Ontario's major teachers' unions have been without a contract since last August and are holding strikes to protest what they describe as unreasonable proposals and education cuts from the government.
On Friday, February 21, the four unions will hold a joint one-day strike if no contract deal is reached.
That action would put two million students across the province out of class.
