The Sault Area Hospital says there's been a privacy breach involving a doctor with privileges at the facility.

The hospital says an investigation was started into allegations that Dr. Douglas E. Brooks had unauthorized access to a patient file.

It says the hospital co-operated fully with the College of Physicians and Surgeons and the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario.

The family has also been notified.

The hospital has imposed a penalty against the doctor, but a spokesperson says they don't divulge details of disciplinary matters.
