Officer sustains serious injuries in Highway 400 crash

An Ontario Provincial Police officer was seriously injured on Highway 400 Thursday morning when her cruiser was struck by a vehicle.

Highway 69 near Key River reopened early Friday morning after it was closed most of Thursday following a collision between two commercial. That crash happened around 6 a.m. Thursday.

The two drivers were not injured in the crash, but a resulting chemical spill closed the Key River Bridge.

Provincial police said the responding officer was exposed to a potentially hazardous chemical and was taken to hospital for precautionary medical assessment. 

In a related incident, an OPP officer was seriously injured on Highway 400.

Police said the officer was conducting traffic control at the Highway 124 ramp, north of Parry Sound, as result of the Key River crash. While in her cruiser — with all emergency lights activated — the officer was struck by a northbound vehicle.

The officer was seriously injured and taken to hospital by EMS.
