1 dead in Trans-Canada Highway crash, east of North Bay

Ontario Provincial Police confirm one person is dead after an SUV and a pickup truck collided on Highway 17, part of the Trans-Canada Highway, east of North Bay, Ont., on Monday.

Ontario Provincial Police confirm one person is dead following a collision on Highway 17, part of the Trans-Canada Highway, near Rutherglen, Ont.

The two vehicle crash happened around 12:35 p.m. on Monday, between North Bay and Mattawa, Ont., according to police.

They said an eastbound SUV crossed the centre line and struck an oncoming pickup truck.

The driver of the SUV died at the scene, while the other driver was not injured.

Highway 17 was closed in both directions for several hours while police investigated. It reopened just after 6 p.m.

The name of the victim has not been released at this time.
