Fire causes $1M in damage to New Sudbury roofing biz
A blaze that has caused an estimated $1 million in damage to the Roof Mart on Lasalle Boulevard on Thursday was called suspicious by Sudbury police.
Fire crews were sent to one of two suspicious fires on Lasalle early in the morning — the other was at a nearby sushi restaurant.
According to CBC News reporter Amy Dodge, insulation and shingles were on fire behind the Roof Mart building. Fire crews were on the scene from about 3 a.m.
At around 7 a.m., six fire trucks were still at the site of the blaze. An excavator was called to the site to put out any remaining fire.
Police said a fire set in a bin behind Osaka Sushi — a restaurant located nearby — is now completely out.
Lasalle Boulevard was blocked off between Dollard and Lansing Streets but has since been reopened.
Police asked nearby residents to close their windows to avoid drifting smoke coming into their homes.
Fire personnel said the smoke was not harmful, however.
