Espanola building fire considered suspicious, police say
Provincial police are reporting that Monday’s fire in Espanola is considered suspicious in nature.
The fire broke out early this morning in a commercial building on Tudhope Street.
OPP Constable Allan Boyd said police and the Ontario Fire Marshall's office are investigating.
"The nature of the fire and, of course, witness recollection that has been advising us, it appears … that it is suspicious in nature and it wasn't self-caused," Boyd said.
Boyd noted that a 44-year-old man was found near the scene with non-life threatening injuries.
He said police are investigating to see whether or not the man had any connection to the fire.
Boyd says the estimated damage to the building has not yet been calculated.
Emergency workers closed Highway 6 Monday morning on both sides of Espanola, until the blaze was put out.
The highway eventually reopened before noon.
