Charges have been laid in an historic sexual assault case dating back to the 1970s.

OPP say the alleged offences occurred between 1974 and 1978 involving an employee of the Bancroft Drive Boys Home and five boys under 16 .

The Bancroft Drive Boys Home was a group home and detention facility that housed boys in Sudbury. The 40-bed facility closed in 1980 after provincial funding was cut, and was later replaced by the Cecil Facer detention centre.

Police said the five alleged victims were residents of the Bancroft home, but the assaults are alleged to have happened in the Killarney-Burwash area one excursions from the facility.

A 68-year-old man from Estaire has been charged with six counts of gross indecency and seven counts of an indecent assault on a male.

Police said his name will not be released to protect the identities of the victims.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court at the end of the month.
