Somerton sentenced
A man whose name is forever linked with the Dana Bradley murder case was back in court in St. John's on Monday.
David Somerton, 49, was sentenced to 18-months in jail for sexual assault and failing to appear in court for his original sentencing date in August. Somerton pleaded guilty to both charges.
In the mid-1980s Somerton was sentenced to a year in jail for misleading police in the still unsolved Bradley case. Since then he's accused police of harassing him and called on them to lay charges or leave him alone.Today, his lawyer asked that Somerton be sentenced to community service on the latest charges. Judge Seamus O'Regan said while he agreed that Somerton was bent on rehabilitating himself, a community sentence wouldn't work.
