Parents lined up with children with anticipation for lightsaber battles and a search for droids.

That's a scene people will see in Saskatoon tonight with the first showings of Star Wars: The Force Awakens but it's also what fans experienced 32 years ago when Return of the Jedi hit the big screen.

In 1983, Star Wars fans made their way to showings of the film, the final of the original saga.

At the Paramount Theatre in Saskatoon, patrons could see the movie at 11 a.m. CST for only $5. The theatre, formerly on 2nd Avenue South, is gone and so are those movie prices.

"It's a very famous movie and I have to see the last part," one fan told the CBC reporter.

In this CBC Saskatoon report from over three decades ago, fans are excited to see the last part of the original trilogy.

Today in Saskatoon, fans are finally learning what happens next.
