Nine Saskatoon Transit buses that were pulled from service Wednesday are back in action.

On Wednesday afternoon, a safety mechanism failed that stops the bus from moving when the doors are open. While drivers could press on the brakes to keep the bus in place, Transit pulled the buses from service as a safety measure.

It turns out that dirt from bus washes at the new Civic Operations Centre was being pushed into the door interlock system.

Transit maintenance worked through the night to get the buses back on the road.

All buses are running as scheduled this morning.

Transit said it's working to permanently fix the issue.
