The Saskatoon Fire Department's water rescue team saved a man's life Sunday afternoon after rescuing him from the South Saskatchewan River.

Fire crews were called to the University Bridge just before 3 p.m. CST when they received a report of a person in distress.

Both water rescue units were sent into the river and set up near the base of the bridge.

When the man entered the water, a trained firefighter dove in and rescued the man, pulling him into the boat.

The man was taken to hospital with what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.
