Get your dialing finger ready.

The Canadian Radio and Telecommunications Commission officially approved a third area code for the province — 474 — earlier this month.

The commission made the decision after it determined Saskatchewan would run out of numbers by 2022.

The new area code will be spread across the province, just like the 306 and 639 area codes already in place.

The last time Saskatchewan received a new area code was in 2011.

The Canadian Numbering Administrator, a group made up of telecom companies and federal regulators, held public meetings about the changes last year.

The numbers will start appearing on new phones by October 2021.
