Poverty reduction coalition hit by provincial government cuts
10 positions at Regional Intersectoral Committees cut by Ministry of Education in budget
Organizations that bring together school divisions, health regions and First Nations and Metis groups have been hit by the latest provincial budget.
Ten employees of Regional Intersectoral Committees (RICs) from across the province were cut by the Ministry of Education this week.
The RICs brought a broad-based group of different social agencies together to work on a variety of different issues, including working on poverty reduction, affordable housing and early childhood development.
A provincial government spokesperson said that the RICs weren't totally funded by the province, and hopes that a lot of the work that they did will be continued by other agencies.
The cuts will save the provincial government just over $1 million.
