New health facility finally underway in Leader, Sask.
$12M project moves forward after tendering delay
It has been waiting for some time, but today the community of Leader, Sask., is celebrating that a new integrated health facility is finally underway.
"This new facility will bring health services under one roof and introduce a new integrated model that will enhance patient- and family-centred care," said Rural and Remote Health Minister Greg Ottenbreit in a press release.
The $12-million project will consolidate the hospital, emergency medical services, health clinic and community centre. The new integrated facility will also be connected to the Western Senior Citizens Home.
Work on the new project was delayed in November 2015 when the original tenders came in much higher than expected.
A new call for tenders was issued this summer, and the job was awarded to Wright Construction Western last month.
Leader is about 150 kilometres northwest of Swift Current, Sask., near the Alberta-Saskatchewan border.
