Military to march cup into Saskatoon
Memorial Cup arrival includes Snowbird flyover
The military will march the Memorial Cup into Saskatoon today as the faceoff for the Canadian Hockey League Championship nears.
Members of the military will escort the cup to the Vimy Memorial in Kiwanis Park for an official arrival ceremony.
The event runs from 11:30 a.m. CST until 1 p.m. CST.
Dignitaries at the event will include Canadian Hockey League officials, military representatives and former members of the Saskatoon Blades hockey team.
The ceremony will also include a barbeque, with the proceeds going to the Central Saskatchewan Military Family Resource Centre.
The Memorial Cup has been around since 1919 and was originally dedicated to those Canadians who lost their lives in World War I. It has since been rededicated to honour all of Canada's fallen military personnel.
The big finale of today’s event will be a flyover by two members of the Snowbirds.
The tournament begins on Friday, with the hometown Blades against the London Knights.
