Funeral underway for children who died in Makwa Sahgaiehcan fire

The Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation is collecting donations for the family who lost two young children in a house fire ahead of the funeral, which is set to take place on Monday.

The funeral for Harley and Haley Cheenanow is being held today in the Makwa Sahgaiehcan band hall. It was scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. CST.

Harley, 2 years old, and Haley, 18 months old, died in a house fire on the northern reserve.

The community is also collecting donations for the family. Loon Lake Fine Foods, located near Highway 26 on the reserve, is accepting gifts of household items, clothing and cash.

The store said people who want to donate can call 306-837-4588 for more information or mail donations to Box 189, Loon Lake, Sask., S0M ILO.
