Wall unveils $10K tax credit for new homeowners

The Saskatchewan Party says it will give new homeowners a $10,000 credit that will result in tax savings of $1,100.

The Saskatchewan Party says it will give new homeowners a $10,000 credit that will result in tax savings of $1,100.

Party leader Brad Wall made the announcement Thursday during a campaign stop in Regina.

The party is also promising that if it is re-elected, it will give the same credit to people who have disabilities and who are purchasing a more accessible home —whether it's a first-time home or not.

The proposed provincial tax credit piggybacks on a similar plan offered by the federal government which can save a homeowner $750.

The plan would cost the province about $6.6 million a year, the Sask. Party says.

The provincial election is Nov. 7.
