Firefighters in Saskatoon quickly extinguished a fire that started on the roof of a local building late Monday afternoon, according to officials.

About 20 firefighters were called shortly after 5:30 p.m. CST to the 100 block of 105th Street East, where they found smoke coming from the rooftop.

The fire was extinguished, and damage to the building was minimized, after crews gained access to the roof and parapet area, the fire department said in a release.

Damages are currently estimated at around $5,000.

Officials say the fire was started by cutting torches that workers were using to dismantle a metal structure on the front of the building.
