Saskatchewan man dies after being shot by RCMP
A man is dead after being shot by the RCMP at Holdfast, Sask. on Wednesday night.
The shooting happened sometime after 10 p.m. CST at a home in the village, about 100 kilometres northwest of Regina.
The RCMP said a male RCMP member from the Craik detachment went to the home in connection with an unspecified Criminal Code investigation. While at the home, there was a "physical altercation" between the officer and a 42-year-old man, the RCMP said in a news release Thursday morning.
During the incident, the officer fired his gun at the man. He died at the scene. The RCMP has asked the Regina Police Service to conduct an independent external investigation into the shooting. Regina police will report their results to the provincial justice minister.
The RCMP has also asked the minister to appoint an independent observer.
